Homemade Ice Cream anyone?

Ice Cream ConeIt’s the season for ice cream;  hot fudge sundaes, banana splits and ice cream cones.  We get together to enjoy the summer season picnicing, boating, swimming, playing ball and enjoying the out doors and the summer sun.  What better way to celebrate the warm season than  to end the day with a cooling ice cream cone, Milkshake or sundae.

Some people prefer soft serve while others prefer hand dip or even homemade ice cream?  If you have dietary restrictions, you may choose frozen yogurt or a refreshing smoothing instead.  Regardless of your preference, this is definitely the season for it.

Ice cream socials are wonderful this time of year.  We did an ice cream social for my daughter’s baby shower, .  Although the ice cream was not homemade, we had ice cream.  We hand-dipped the ice cream previously into the little balls onto paper muffin cups for the guests to easily enjoy.  There was chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.  After putting it in their sundae dishes, they could choose from twenty different treats which were spread out on the table in order to enhance your frozen treat. On that hot summer July day, we enjoy the company of good friends, celebrated a happy occasion and savored our frozen treat!

A great childhood memory, was making ice cream with my cousins.  They owned an ice cream maker and we would take turns churning the ice cream by hand.  We worked a long time until we had a smooth and cooling treat.    We would then smother it with many types of toppings:  Sprinkles, fudge, caramel, nuts, cherries and whipped topping.

I do recall how rewarding it was to eat that nice creamy homemade ice cream, after using that manual homemade ice cream maker.  We worked pretty long and hard churning it by hand to get the proper consistency, all the while continuing to add ice to keep it cold.  Wow, what a chore, but oh, how oh how we relished in that sense of accomplishment.

We are luck with today’s technology, we can lavish in that creamy sensation and tasty treat without working so hard by  churning it.
